Bismarck Outdoor Pool Closings

The Elks Aquatic Center and the Wachter Aquatic Center will close for the season at the end of the swim session on Sunday August 15^th. Hillside Pool will remain open through Friday, August 20^th. The pool hours are Monday through Thursday, Noon to 4 pm and 4:30 to 7:50 pm. Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours are Noon to 7 pm. The swim fee is $3.50 per session.

Bismarck’s New Indoor Playground

Calling all pirates and beach combers.

An indoor playground is ready to explore at the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center, 1601 Canary Ave., Bismarck. Wee Island, the beach themed playground, features play equipment for kids’ age 0-5 and a future pirate themed play structures for ages 5 plus.

Young ones can crawl on crocodile or climb on a turtle. A rowboat is ready for sailors and a log tunnel doubles as a slide. All the play elements are on a poured-in-place rubber surface that mimics sand and water.

The new, fully accessible playground is open during regular facility hours. Playground use is free for facility members and $1 for non-members. Adults supervising children age 7 and under in the playground get in free.

The playground is sponsored by grants and donations from the Bismarck Sertoma Club, ND Department of Human Services and the Magical Moments Playground Committee.

Bismarck’s Great Trails Discovery

As part of Bismarck Parks and Recreation’s July Celebration and National Recreation month, you can get out and explore Bismarck’s trails for a free tshirt and a chance at a grand prize. Participants must complete 5 questions about various trails around town. All participants receive a Great Trails Discovery tshirt and a chance at a grand prize. Question forms can be picked up at the Park District office or downloaded here.

Statewide Disc Golf Treasure Hunt

Six Parks and Recreation Districts, including Bismarck, Dickinson, Grand Forks, Fargo, Jamestown and Mandan, are teaming up with Rock 30 Games to bring a Disc Golf Treasure Hunt to local communities.

The event starts July 19^th and runs through August 13, culminating with the 11th Annual North Dakota State Disc Golf Championship, taking place in Grand Forks, August 14-15. The overall goals of the 4-week event are to increase awareness of the sport of disc golf and local courses, and promote interest in local leagues and disc golf tournaments.

Treasure Hunt Event:
Each Monday, starting July 19, three minis will be hidden on the local disc golf courses. Minis are used in the sport of disc golf to mark a player’s throw and look similar to a golf disc, but are only four inches in diameter. Clues to their location will be displayed on Rock 30 Games website, www.rock30games.com. Clues will be displayed every Monday and once a mini has been found, a note will be placed behind the clue to indicate this. Links to the clues can also be found at the Bismarck, Dickinson, Fargo, Jamestown and Mandan’s Parks and Recreation District’s websites; www.bisparks.org, www.dickinsonparks.org, www.gfparks.org, www.fargoparks.com, www.jamestownparksandrec.com and www.mandanparks.com.

Once a participant has found a mini it is time to collect the prize. The code displayed on the back of mini is used to determine the prize. The participant will take the mini to one of the Rock 30 Games locations to decipher the code. Those locations are:

Each participant who finds a mini will be entered into the grand prize drawing of a disc golf bag containing free discs, a value of $75.

There are over 18 city parks that offer free disc golf in North Dakota. Bismarck offers two free disc golf courses: General Sibley Park (S. Washington: 4 miles south of Bismarck) and the newly designed Lions Hillside Park (E. Boulevard and N. 16^th St.). Dickinson offers three free disc golf courses: Jaycees Park (5th Ave SE and E. Broadway), Memorial Park Optimist (545 9th St W) and Patterson Lake Recreation Area (3749 114th Ave SW). Grand Forks offers one free disc golf course: Lincoln Drive Park (120 Euclid Avenue). Fargo offers three free disc golf courses: Iwen Park (1209 52nd Avenue S), Oak Grove (170 Maple Street N) and the new course for 2010, Trollwood Parks (3664 Elm Street N). Jamestown offers one free disc golf courses: Klaus Park (1002 2nd Ave. SE). Mandan offers one free disc golf courses: Sunset Park (1000 Division St SW).

North Dakota Disc Golf Association (www.discgolfnd.com) is a group of avid disc golfers who have come together to promote and expand the sport of disc golf in North Dakota and local communities. Their intentions are to generate more interest in tournaments, increase league memberships, and provide information on course development and other disc golf
events.

Bismarck’s City-wide Play Day!

Online Reservations come to Bismarck Golf

It’s Thursday, and you’d like to make a tee time for Saturday. Now you can. Bismarck Parks and Recreation District now allows golfers to make tee times online up to three days in advance at Tom O’Leary, Riverwood and Pebble Creek Golf Courses. Reservations can be made by going to the park district’s website at www.bisparks.org and clicking the “Book a Tee Time” link on the home page. First time users will be asked to register and create an account. Each golfer will then have a user ID and a password emailed to them. After registering, first time users will be automatically logged in to reserve future tee times. After reserving a tee time, a confirmation email will be sent. Golfers should check in when they arrive at the course to make their golf payment. Golfers wanting to make a tee time on the same day they want to play must contact the golf course golf course they would like to play via phone. Web reservations must be cancelled 24 hours in advance. To review, cancel, or change a booked tee time, golfers can call the appropriate course or log on to change their account. Phone reservations for tee times will also be accepted and welcomed for up to three days in advance.
